I can't believe it's been another year. Time went by so quickly!  I hope everybody find year 2008 an exciting and rewarding one!  There's a lot of financial issues around the world, I hope everybody is doing well and can weather through this tough time.

I recently read an article on Time Magazine and the story just totally upset me...  

 

The Time Magazine Article is about the death of woman while giving birth.  It said "Every year, about 536,000 women die giving birth. In some poor nations, dying in childbirth is so common that almost everyone has known a victim."  The thing that surprise me the most is that women in poor country are facing  a 1 in 8 chance of dying in childbirth during their lifetime, but in the U.S., by contrast, the lifetime chance that a woman will die in childbirth is about 1 in 4,800; in Britain, 1 in 8,200; and in Sweden, 1 in 17,400.  

 

I wonder what is wrong with our priority.  The data clearly suggest that dying in childbirth is preventable but are the political will just too week to make this happen?  What can we do to help with this kind of situation?  We may not be able to do much individually, but as a whole community, there should be something that we can help...  What do you think?
